history

The first Osnabrück hill climb was held in 1968 with 144 participants in front of around 7,000 spectators. In 1970 Heinz Brosch from Osnabrück had a fatal accident when he hit a tree. In the following years, the safety precautions around the route were improved. In 1971, Formula 3 vehicles drove for the first time on the almost two-kilometer route. At the end of the 1970s, double crash barriers were finally installed to delimit the route. In 1980 Formula 2 cars drove on the track for the first time . In the following years the field of participants became more and more attractive. Well-known racing drivers such as Roland Asch and Timo Glock started in the show program of the event, and Formula 3000 and DTM vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz 190 were also represented.

In 2016, the Italian Christian Merli won the hill climb in his Osella FA 30 ahead of last year's winner Joel Volluz (Switzerland) and Václav Janik from the Czech Republic. Merli set a new course record with 51.232 seconds. With 51.024 seconds, Merli also won the 50th hill climb, undermining his own record from last year. This record was also broken a year later when the Frenchman Sébastien Petit won the hill climb in a Norma M20FC in 50.145 seconds .
