Etymology and history

Beck is a Middle Low German form for Bach, Ossen is a dialect name for an ox . So Ossenbeck is called Ochsenbach. The name of the farm goes back to its location on the stream of the same name. On the Topographia Ducatus Montani by Erich Philipp Ploennies from 1715, the farm is listed as Osenbec . The location is also recorded on the topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824, as well as on the Prussian first survey of 1843.

In 1815/16 the place had 37 inhabitants. In 1832 the place belonged to the Steinbeck and Arrenberger Rotte of the rural outskirts of the parish and the city of Elberfeld . Which according to the statistics and topography of the district of Dusseldorf as Ackergut categorized place was as in the Ossenbeck called and had at this time four houses and five farm buildings.
