Ossi Karttunen

Ossi Karttunen ( Ossi Jalmari Karttunen; born March 17, 1948 in Ruokolahti ) is a former Finnish sprinter .

At the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1969, he was eliminated over 100 m in the semifinals and over 200 m in the preliminary run. In 1971 he came at the European Championships in Helsinki over 200 m and in the 4 x 400 meter relay not beyond the preliminary round.

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he was sixth in the 4 x 400 meter relay .

In 1973 he was at the European Athletics Cup in Edinburgh third over 200 m and 400 m . In 1974 he won bronze in the 4 x 400 meter relay at the European Championships in Rome and was fifth in the 400 m . In the 4 x 100 meter relay , he failed in the lead. The following year he retired from the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1975 in Katowice over 400 m in the semifinals and over 60 m in the preliminary run.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he was eighth in the 4-by-400-meter relay and reached the quarter-finals over 400 m .

In 1978 he did not get past the lead over 400 m at the European Championships in Prague .

Eight times he was Finnish champion over 200 m (1966-1970, 1973, 1974, 1977) and three times over 100 m (1968, 1969, 1979) and 400 m (1975, 1976, 1978).
