Distribution warehouse and sales building in Witten

Ostermann is a family company based in Witten , which has focused on interior design and furniture stores.

history

On March 11, 1948, Fredi Ostermann founded a stove and oven trade on 48 m² in Witten - Annen . A short time later, he also offered kitchen cabinets and seating furniture for sale. When the shop became too small in 1953, he moved his business to a 1,500 m² building (Annenstrasse 118). The building was later demolished and in 1966 an approximately 10,000 m² exhibition complex was opened there. After the company's founder died in December 1975, his two sons Manfred and Rolf Ostermann took over the management. On July 1, 2013, Manfred Ostermann resigned from his position as managing director for health reasons. His brother Rolf Ostermann remained managing director and also became spokesman for the management. Ostermann's niece Dr. Sina Küper, his son Marc Ostermann and Jörg Koch. Since then there have been four managing directors (as of the end of 2018).

In 1985, another location was opened in Haan with a sales area of 23,000 m². It replaced the furniture store Wohnwelt Lorenz Sackers built there by the Sackers family in 1975 (since 1995 Smidt Wohnwelt in Leverkusen). The third location was opened on August 5, 1999 in Bottrop on approximately 35,000 m² of retail space.

In the mid-1990s, the traditional location in the center of the Witten district of Annen was given up and a modern furniture store was built in the Rüdinghausen industrial park . Since there were no subsequent users for the old buildings in the center of Annen, the central administration remained there. Large parts of the former sales area were re-used as a seminar center by the local adult education center.

The sales hall for garden furniture, a lightweight hall, was made available to the Bundesliga club KSV Witten 07 , who moved it from Annenstrasse to Mannesmannstrasse. With funds from the federal government, the state, the city of Witten and the association, a wrestling performance center was built there, which is used under the name "Ostermann-Halle".

In the 1990s, the company also operated several branches for low-price furniture under the name "Klick". After a few years these locations were sold to Möbel Boss. After the sale of the "Klick" locations, the company has been operating another furniture brand with the slogan "Experience new spaces" under the name "Loft" since 2003.

The take-away furniture brands “Trends” with locations in Witten, Haan and Bottrop, which are aimed more at younger customers, are also part of the family business. At the end of 2006, with the opening of the “Trends and Friends” center in Recklinghausen, another branch was created, which at that time had around 30,000 m² of retail space. In 2007 this location was renamed the "Ostermann Mega-Center" with a new opening.

The furniture tips industry service put sales in 2005 at EUR 280 million. According to information provided by werzu-wem.de and the furniture tips industry service, Ostermann had sales of EUR 305 million in 2008.

In 2011, Ostermann opened a new kitchen house in Witten for 10 million euros with 10,000 m² of retail space, which is Germany's largest kitchen house in terms of area. The company's turnover in the kitchen area alone amounts to 40 million euros, which is the 15th place of all kitchen retailers in Germany. The total sales area in Witten is approx. 48,350 m².

The company achieves an area performance of 2,200 euros per m².

In Haan (as of the end of 2016) the establishment of a new building for kitchens is planned, which will have an exhibition area of 5,000 m².

In 2013, the opening of a further branch with three furniture stores in Duisburg-Meiderich was announced, the construction date of which was originally supposed to be 2014 and 2015. This date has been postponed several times. In July 2018, Ostermann announced that the branch would be a third smaller than originally planned, without a garden center and without a separate kitchen specialist.
