The VHS Witten / Wetter / Herdecke is the joint adult education center for the cities of Witten , Wetter and Herdecke .
history
The adult education center in Witten was founded in 1919 in the auditorium of the court school. In the 1920s, the city of Witten paid the club-supported VHS annual subsidies. At the beginning of the 1930s, the city had to stop these payments due to the global economic crisis and so the last course of the VHS Witten took place in 1933. During the period of National Socialism the VHS mode rested. In 1946 the VHS was re-established. In 1963 the VHS moved into the Villa Friedrich Lohmann senior. as a VHS house . In 1964, the city of Witten took over the sponsorship of the VHS Witten from the Adult Education Association.
1977 merged the community college Witten , founded in 1974 Volkshochschule weather and founded in 1948, community college Herdecke for Adult Education Zweckverband Witten / weather / Herdecke . Since the mid-1990s, the VHS has been using the former premises of the Ostermann furniture store in Annen as a seminar center, to which the Witten office moved in 2011 . At the end of 2007, the VHS decided to found a non-profit GmbH .
Sonja Leidemann , mayor of Witten since 2004 , was director of the VHS Witten / Wetter / Herdecke from 1998–2004.
