Osvaldo Ronald Zambrana Enríquez (also Oswaldo , spelling of the world chess federation FIDE ; born July 7, 1981 in Sucre ) is a Bolivian chess player .

Zambrana, who learned chess at the age of nine, is the first and only chess player in Bolivia to become a Grand Master (GM). He achieved the first GM standard in August 2004 in Santos , Brazil at the 4th Mario Covas International Tournament . He reached the second norm in July 2005 at the 10th Ciutat de Balaguer tournament in Balaguer (Lleida) . He reached the third norm for the grandmaster title in December 2005 at the Las Palmas Open in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria . However, he was only able to receive the title in January 2007, as he had not yet reached the required Elo rating of 2500. He received the title of International Master (IM) in February 2004. He fulfilled the IM standards in May 2002 at the Capablanca Memorial in Havana , in May 2003 at the Guillermo García tournament in the province of Villa Clara and in September 2003 at the Zone 2.4 tournament in São Paulo .

For Bolivia he took part in all six Chess Olympiads from 1998 to 2008 as well as the 2012 and 2014 Chess Olympiads . At the 2000 Chess Olympiad in Istanbul he was awarded the silver medal for his score of 7 out of 9 on the third board as a player without a title. In December 2006 he won the Memorial Raul Monroy Vizcarra in Santa Cruz with a score of 9 out of 9.
