Oswald Muris

Oswald Waldemar Muris (* December 7, 1884 in Ludgerstal , Ratibor district , † April 18, 1964 in Wiesbaden ) was a German geographer and geography didactic.

The son of a building contractor attended the Realgymnasium in Ratibor until his Abitur in 1907, studied German, geography and history in Halle, Breslau and Greifswald until he received his doctorate in geography in 1911 and the state examination in 1912. This was followed by teacher training in Beuthen and Ratibor. In Opole and Grünberg he taught as a senior teacher, from April 1918 as a teacher in Opole and from 1920 in Berlin. In 1929 he was appointed professor of geography at the Pedagogical Academy in Hanover, in 1932 transferred to Halle (Saale) , and 1934–1939 professor of educational science and geography and director of the college for teacher training in Dortmund , from 1938 in Frankfurt (Oder) . Since March 1, 1933 Muris was a NSDAP member, SA member, 1934 Gau clerk for geography in the National Socialist Teachers' Union (NSLB) in Gau Westfalen-Süd , 1941 head of the Reich Working Group for Atlases.

Muris followed Eduard Spranger's local history concept and Erich Jaensch's ethnic psychology .
