Óscar Aguirregaray , full name Óscar Osvaldo Aguirregaray Acosta , (born October 25, 1959 in Artigas ) is a former Uruguayan football player and current coach. He is the father of soccer player Matías Aguirregaray .

The 1.80 meter tall defensive player Aguirregaray belonged to the team Nacional Montevideos at the beginning of his career from 1980 to the end of 1985 . The “Bolsos” won the Uruguayan championship in 1980 and 1983 during this phase. In 1980, the Montevideans also decided both the Copa Libertadores and the World Cup in their favor. From 1986 to mid-1988 Aguirregaray was active for the Club Atlético Defensor . The club, which is also based in the Uruguayan capital, secured the second national championship title in the club's history in 1987. Since July 1988 he was in the ranks of the SC Internacional , with whom he reached the finals of the Copa União 1988 . But there his team was defeated by the EC Bahia . In early 1990 he moved to Palmeiras São Paulo within Brazil . At the beginning of 1991 he returned to his former employer, which had been renamed Defensor Sporting since the merger in 1989. Aguirregaray was already part of the squad of the Uruguayan senior team at the 1987 Copa America , which won the continental title. Coaching career

Aguirregaray struck a coaching career after the active career. In January 2005 he took up a coaching position at River Plate Montevideo and worked in this function until mid-June of the following year. From March 2010 to mid-May 2010 he was assistant coach at Danubio FC . He then worked from July 2010 until just before Christmas 2014 as the assistant coach of the Peruvian national team. A few days later, on December 23, 2014, he joined Club Atlético Peñarol in the same capacity and left office there on January 22, 2016 together with head coach Pablo Bengoechea .
