Otalążka is a village in the Mogielnica municipality in the Polish powiat Grójecki in the Masovian Voivodeship . It is located three kilometers southeast of the city center on the outskirts of Mogielnica on the Mogielanka .
sanctuary
A sacrificial site was found on both banks of a loop of the Mogielanka river, which no longer exists today, near the village. So far it is the only place of sacrifice with fixed facilities that has been fully investigated. Initially (1954) it was believed that a pile settlement had been found. The square is now viewed as a water sanctuary. There were permanently installed entrances on both sides of the water, paved or with grate structures made of wood. Many bones were found, but no human bones. On the right bank, the bones were splintered, often burnt, which is interpreted as a sign of meals. On the right bank there were also three hearths in a row, surrounded by a thick layer of ash and broken pottery pots. There were also two wooden benches nearby.
But in other places, especially on the left bank, only skulls and extremities and also part of a wagon wheel were found.
Among the bones, those of cattle were most common (by 41%), followed by wild birds (by 20%), then sheep / goats with about 16%, red deer (about 12%), pigs (by 8%) and horses (by 3%).
Apparently there was a celebration on the right bank and sacrifice on the left bank.
The square is currently dated to the 4th to 6th centuries. However, pollen analyzes are still pending.
