Otar Omarowitsch Bestajew ( Russian Отар Омарович Бестаев ; English transcription Otar Bestaev; * October 28, 1991 in Vladikavkaz , North Ossetian ASSR , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a Kyrgyz judoka who competed for Russia until 2014.

The 1.60 m tall Bestayev fights in the super lightweight, the weight class up to 60 kilograms. Bestajew was the 2010 Russian champion in his weight class. In 2011 he finished seventh at the World Cup in Bucharest. In 2014 he was once again the Russian runner-up.

In 2015 he competed for the first time for Kyrgyzstan at the Asian Championships. After a semi-final defeat against the South Korean Kim Won-jin , he defeated the Kazakhs Jeldos Smetow in the battle for bronze . Three weeks after the Asian Championships, he won the World Cup in Minsk. At the 2015 World Championships, Bestayev lost to Brazilian Felipe Kitadei in the first round .

In 2016, Bestayev finished fifth at the Asian Championships after losing to Kazakh Rustam Ibrajew in the quarterfinals and to Japanese Yuma Oshima in the battle for bronze . At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he defeated the Egyptian Ahmed Abdelrahman in his first fight , but then retired from Azerbaijan against Orxan Səfərov . In 2017 Bestajew lost in the first round of the Asian Championships against the North Korean Pak Yong-nam . At the 2017 World Championships, he was defeated by South Korean Jeon Seung-beom in the second round .

Otar Bestajew fights in the judo Bundesliga with the Hamburg judo team , the German team champion in 2016 and 2017 .
