Otfried Czaika

Otfried Bernhard Czaika (born January 15, 1971 in Bad Gandersheim ) is a German-Swedish church historian with a focus on the early modern period .

Life

From 1992 to 1997, Czaika studied Protestant theology , German , Scandinavian and Finno-Ugric studies at the universities of Munich , Linköping and Uppsala . From 1998 to 2002 he was a doctoral candidate, first at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and then at the University of Helsinki . In 2002 he was awarded a doctorate in Helsinki with the work of David Chytraeus and the University of Rostock in their relations with the Swedish Empire. theol. PhD. From 2003 to 2007 Czaika was an associate professor of church history at Linköping University and from 2007 to 2013 he was a researcher and librarian at the Royal Library in Stockholm, the Swedish National Library. Since 2013 he has been Professor of Church History with a focus on Reformation history at the private teologiske menighetsfakultet (Norwegian School of Theology) in Oslo .

His research interests lie in the Scandinavian church history of the early modern period, the Swedish and Finnish book history in the time of the Reformation and confessionalization as well as the Scandinavian constitutional history from around 1500 to 1900. In addition, Czaika has dealt with the role of collective memory for the Reformation commemoration and periodization issues on the history of the Dedicated to the late Middle Ages and the early modern period.

In addition to German, Czaika also has Swedish citizenship; he lives in Karlstad, Sweden .
