Other Dimensions in Music is an American improvisation quartet that has existed since the 1980s.

History of the band

Other Dimensions In Music was founded in the early 1980s by four veterans of the New York free jazz scene. The band's music is largely improvised, but also contains lyrical and calm elements. The group members Rashid Bakr , Roy Campbell , Daniel Carter and William Parker see their ensemble as an element of collective improvisation. In 1989 the band project, which only appears occasionally, recorded its first album for the Silkheart Records label .

In November 1999 the formation should appear at the Total Music Meeting in Berlin . Alan Silva stepped in for Rashied Bakr, who was canceled at short notice . In 2006 the live album Live at the Sunset was created in Paris ; Drummer Hamid Drake joined the band for Rashid Bakr . Parker also played musette , a woodwind instrument (used by Dewey Redman in the band project Old and New Dreams ) in Paris ; Hamid Drake and Carter also sing.
