Otmar Nussio
Otmar Nussio (born October 23, 1902 in Grosseto ; † July 22, 1990 Lugano ), von Brusio and Ardez ( Graubünden , Switzerland ) was a Swiss conductor and composer .
Live and act
Otmar Nussio was born in Italy as the son of Swiss abroad. His older brother Oscar was a painter and wood sculptor. Otmar Nussio attended middle school in Graubünden at the Protestant Middle School Schiers . From 1920 he studied flute at the Milan Conservatory with Luigi Longhi (1884–1932), then he studied composition, piano and orchestral conducting at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
From 1938 to 1968 Nussio was chief conductor of the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana in Lugano. During this time he made friends with composers like Igor Stravinsky , Zoltán Kodály , Darius Milhaud , Benjamin Britten and Paul Hindemith , some of whom he premiered.
Nussio has conducted numerous recordings and concerts with renowned soloists such as Clara Haskil , Váša Příhoda and David Oistrach , with the latter performing violin concertos by Mozart, Sibelius and Brahms. Nussio was run over by a train in Lugano on July 22, 1990 and died.
