Otto Bretscher

Otto Bretscher (born April 27, 1911 in Andelfingen ; † December 11, 2000 there ; entitled to live in Adlikon and Andelfingen) was a Swiss politician ( BGB / SVP ).

Family and work

The reformed baptized, born Andelfinger Otto Bretscher, son of the architect Jakob Bretscher, visited after his compulsory education from 1928 to 1930, the Agricultural School Strickhof in Wülflingen , an urban district of the city of Winterthur . Bretscher then completed professional training in Switzerland and Denmark . Since 1936 Bretscher has been running his farm in his home town Andelfingen. Otto Bretscher married Elsa from Niederglatt in 1935 , daughter of the station director Johann Ringger. He died in December 2000 at the age of 89.

Political career

Otto Bretscher joined the Farmers, Trade and Citizens' Party (BGB) in 1930, and in 1975 he switched to the Swiss People's Party (SVP Switzerland). Bretscher belonged since 1950 the council of Andelfingen, he from 1956 to 1974 as mayor board. In 1955 he took a seat in the Zurich Cantonal Council , from which he resigned in 1975. In 1967 the people of Zurich elected him to the National Council , from which he resigned in 1979. Otto Bretscher also held the position of district school supervisor from 1955 to 1957, and from 1966 to 1974 that of the President of the Association of Zurich Mayor Presidents. In 1956 he was elected to the board of the wood producers' association of the Canton of Zurich, which he has presided over since 1979, and in 1986 he announced his resignation. Bretscher's commitment applied alongside agricultural policy , education policy and health policy .
