Otto Flügel (born June 16, 1842 in Lützen , † July 9, 1914 in Dölau ) was a German theologian and philosopher.

Live and act

Flügel was born as the son of the teacher and mayor Johann Nikolaus (1806–1862) and Sophie, née. Hartung, born in Lützen near Leipzig. After attending school and teaching as a Forsteleve in Schleusingen, he studied philosophy, theology and natural sciences in Halle (Saale) from 1864 . His teacher Carl Sebastian Cornelius , a direct student of Johann Friedrich Herbart , exerted a considerable influence on him .

In 1868 he taught briefly at the Weißenfels Progymnasium . From 1869 to 1871 he was a deacon in Laucha an der Unstrut , then until 1883 country pastor in Schochwitz , then until 1908 country pastor in Wansleben . Together with the two Herbartians Wilhelm Rein (and from 1906 additionally with Karl Just) he published the magazine philosophy and pedagogy from 1894 to 1914 . In 1912 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Halle . In 1869, Flügel married Marie, the daughter of Friedrich Heinrich Theodor Allihn (1811–1885). The two had a son and two daughters.
