Otto Friedrich Schutzbar called Milchling (also called Schutzpar Milchling ; * September 8, 1563 , † April 14, 1604 ) was rector of the University of Würzburg around 1596 .

Life

Otto Friedrich Schutzbar called Milchling was born on September 8, 1563. His family came from the Fulda and could refer to some clergy in their ranks. The father Eberhard Schutzbar called Milchling was active as a high school in Fulda, the mother Katharina came from the noble taverns in Schweinsberg , which twice provided the prince abbots of Fulda . In Würzburg the family was represented in the cathedral monastery, so Otto Friedrich's brother, Christoph Sittich, rose to become domicellar.

Very little is known about the education of the young Otto Friedrich. On October 6, 1582, he was appointed domicellar and thus entered the Würzburg cathedral chapter. On March 1, 1585, Schutzbar enrolled at the University of Würzburg as a student of the fine arts. He then negotiated with the cathedral chapter so that he could continue his studies in Rome . In May 1585 he received permission and traveled to the Collegium Germanicum . He had received support in particular from his uncle, cathedral scholaster Wilhelm Schutzbar.

From 1590 Otto Friedrich Schutzbar called Milchling was back in Würzburg and was presented to the clergy on August 18 by Prince Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn . With the appointment to this body, Schutzbar rose to one of the most influential clergy in the diocese. A year later he became the capitular and acquired the Vituli farm in Ebracher Gasse. In 1593, Schutzbar was appointed cathedral cantor. At the same time he was given the honorary title of archdeacon .

Bishop Julius also relied on the protector loyal to him when he was appointed provost of St. Burkard in 1594. In the end, however, the election to this office failed due to the opposing candidate Neithard von Thüngen, who was preferred by the cathedral chapter . However, on September 30, 1596, the Prince-Bishop appointed him Rector Magnificus of the university. Schutzbar was also sent on trips by the bishop, so in 1598 in his role as clergyman he supervised the doctorate of the Schwarzach abbot Johannes V. Krug .

At the meetings of the spiritual council, however, Schutzbar called Milchling could hardly be found. In 1599 he resigned from the clergy, although it is unclear what reasons led to this. Perhaps the theologian's health was already compromised. On April 14, 1604 Otto Friedrich Schutzbar, called Milchling, died at the age of forty and was buried in the chapter house of the Würzburg Cathedral .
