history

Rest of Treis Castle

The family is first mentioned in 1035 with Eberhard Schutzspeer called Milchling. The ancestral seat of the noble family was initially probably the local Ellhaus Castle , later also Treis Castle in Treis an der Lumda on the opposite bank of the Lumda. Eberhard's descendants were partly canons in Wetzlar and Burgmannen von Friedberg , later also landgrave officials and clerical dignitaries.

From Ruprecht von Schutzbar called Milchling († after 1355), Schultheiß in Rosenthal and Burgmann zu Battenberg , the branch line of the calf from Weitershausen called Schubel comes from.

A branch of the family can be found in Orb around 1576 . Presumably in the role of bailiff , he was involved in the expansion of Bad Orb Castle .

In Franconia, the family was especially wealthy in the Würzburg monastery , and from 1569 also in the Middle Franconian region ( Wilhermsdorf , Neidhardswinden ). The so-called Milchling House , a former family estate from 1598, has been preserved in the community of Sommerach .
