Ferdinand von Schutzbar called Milchling (born February 28, 1813 in Karlshafen , † January 6, 1891 in Hannoversch Münden ) was a German lawyer, manor and parliamentarian.

Life

Ferdinand von Schutzbar studied at the University of Marburg , the Ruprecht-Karls-University of Heidelberg , the Georg-August-University of Goettingen and finally again in Marburg law . In 1831 he became a member of the Corps Teutonia Marburg . In 1832 he joined the Corps Hassia Marburg. In 1833 he became active in the Corps Hassia Heidelberg. In 1834 he joined the Corps Guestphalia Göttingen. Most recently, he was awarded the Corps Guestphalia Marburg ribbon .

After completing his studies, he pursued a career as a judge. In 1849 he was senior court assessor in Kassel . As a senior judge at the Cassel Supreme Court in 1850, he was one of the few judges who declared Ludwig Hassenpflug's actions against the liberal development in Hesse to be constitutional. A few years later, now a member of the Kurhessisches Landtag, he resigned from the judge's office and in 1856 acquired the Hohenhaus estate in Holzhausen near Herleshausen from the von Buttlar family , which he has been managing since then. His son, the cavalry master and chamberlain Rudolf von Schutzbar, took over the estate after his death and had the current manor house built in 1901 by the Berlin architect Bodo Ebhardt , which passed into the possession of a Hamburg publishing family in 1934 and is now a Relais & Châteaux hotel.

From 1852 to 1854 and from 1858 to 1861 the President of the First Chamber of the Hessian Estates Assembly in Kassel could be protected . In his first presidency, to which he needed special permission as a member of the judiciary and received Hassenpflug as a henchman, he was an advocate for strengthening the constitutional rights of the legislature. In 1853 he and Ludwig von Edelsheim voted unsuccessfully against a curtailment of the civil rights granted to Jews since 1816. You and three other MPs lost five to ten in the vote. However, the restriction of the rights of Jews was rejected by the Second Chamber.

From 1872 to 1890 Schutzbar was chairman of the Kassel Municipal Parliament and from 1886 to 1887 of the Provincial Parliament of the Hesse-Nassau Province . From 1867 until his death in 1891 he belonged to the Prussian manor house .

Protected was a member of the Althessian knighthood and one of the three chief heads of the knighthood of Kaufungen .
