Georg Friedrich Thöne (born January 5, 1867 in Niedermeiser ; † May 4, 1945 in Kassel ) was a German politician (SPD).

Live and act

After attending elementary school in Niedermeiser, Thöne learned the mason trade from 1881 to 1884 . From 1903 to 1907 Thöne officiated as Gauleiter of the bricklayers' association. He then held the office of District Secretary of the Social Democratic Party for the Kassel district from 1907 to 1919 . From 1908 to 1919 he was also a member of the city council of Kassel.

In 1912 Thöne became a member of the Reichstag of the German Empire , to which he belonged until the collapse of the monarchy in November 1918. After the November Revolution of 1918, Thöne was a member of the Kassel workers and soldiers council .

In January 1919 Thöne was elected to the Weimar National Assembly for constituency 19 (Hessen-Nassau) , which sat until June 1920. He then belonged to the Reichstag for one legislative period as a member of the Reichstag until May 1924. From 1929 to 1933 he was also a deputy member of the Prussian State Council . For the period from 1919 to 1933 he was a member of the Kassel Municipal Parliament and the Provincial Parliament of the Hesse-Nassau Province , of which he was President from 1930 to 1933.

From December 1919 to 1928 Thöne served as district administrator for the district of Witzenhausen . He then held the office of chairman of the state insurance institute for the province of Hessen-Nassau based in Kassel for five years until 1933 . After 1933 he was expelled from all offices by the National Socialists . Most recently, Thöne was withdrawn from the University of Marburg as an honorary senator in 1938. After the end of National Socialism, he was again made an honorary senator.

Today, among other things, Georg-Thöne-Strasse in Kassel is a reminder of Thöne's life and political activities.
