Otto Geisler (engineer)

Otto Geisler (born May 23, 1935 in Bokel ; † March 24, 2011 in Hamburg ) was a German mechanical engineer .

Life

Geisler studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Hanover and was initially Berechnungsingenieur for turbomachinery in Gutehoffnungshütte AG in Oberhausen. In 1962 he became head of the construction department for turbine construction at Blohm + Voss AG . At the same time, he worked on his dissertation on ship steam turbines and was awarded a Dr.-Ing. In 1968 at the Technical University of Hanover with the thesis "Flow losses in axial counter-pressure steam turbines under changed operating conditions" . PhD.

In 1971 he was offered a full professorship for marine machinery at the Technical University of Hanover and at the same time director of the institute of the same name. He was the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 98 “Ship Technology and Shipbuilding”.

In 1980 he moved to the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg , where he was one of the founding professors. He took over the professorship for thermal power plants and ship engines.

Geisler was a member of several administrative and supervisory boards, including the supervisory board of Blohm + Voss and the administrative board of Reintjes GmbH in Hameln.
