career

Schalke 04 until 1956

Six days before his 20th birthday, Otto Hölzemann celebrated his debut in the Oberliga West on October 24, 1954 under the new coach at FC Schalke 04 , Eduard Frühwirth , in a 2-1 home win against 1. FC Köln . With Hermann Eppenhoff and Walter Zwickhofer he formed the runner row of the "Knappen" in the 2-1 victory against Cologne. Also on the final day of the round, on May 1, 1955, Schalke got a final 1-1 home draw against the new Westmaster Rot-Weiss Essen with the same runner and took fifth place in the table. Hölzemann was used in 19 games. When Schalke won the runner-up in 1956, he was not used and therefore moved to the 1956/57 round to TuS Neuendorf in the Oberliga Südwest.

TuS Neuendorf, 1956 to 1959

The man from Schalke attacked the blue-blacks at the "Deutsches Eck" in Koblenz. Right in the start game of the round, on August 19, 1956 on the pea mountain of VfR Kaiserslautern , he scored a goal for TuS Neuendorf in a 2-2 draw. Although his new club only managed a goal difference of 67:60 goals and thus took sixth place, Otto Hölzemann shot himself to the top of the list of goalscorers in the southwest with 28 hits. Within the club, Franz Müller with 13 and Jakob Miltz with eight goals were the most accurate shooters next to Hölzemann in Neuendorf. The champions were the “Walter-Elf” from 1. FC Kaiserslautern with a goal difference of 129:40 goals. The best shooters were Ottmar Walter and Willi Wenzel with 21 goals each. The second best scorer in the southwest was Herbert Martin from runner-up 1. FC Saarbrücken with 23 goals. The new top scorer distinguished himself as a two-time goal scorer in five games and a triple goal scorer in two matches. Outstanding was the 5-2 home win on December 16, 1955 against the Lautr master team in front of 25,000 spectators in the Oberwerth stadium , with Hölzemann also scoring twice in the goal. The revenge on the final day of the round, on April 28, 1957 on the Betzenberg, was achieved in Kaiserslautern with a shooting festival. Neuendorf was beaten with 12: 6 goals, so the one goal by Hölzemann, his 28th goal in the round, could not create a good atmosphere. The achievements of the top scorer were honored by being appointed to the regional selection of Southwest Germany in the representative game on December 30, 1956 in Ludwigshafen against West Germany. The south-west prevailed with the attacking line-up Herbert Schroer , Willi Wenzel, Hölzemann, Jakob Miltz and Helmut Müller with 3: 1 goals.

In the second year in Neuendorf, now the old international Josef Gauchel was active as a coach, Hölzemann confirmed his striker qualities with 18 goals. With Neuendorf things went downhill and in 1959 the team was relegated from the Oberliga Südwest.

Meidericher SV, 1959/60

Then Hölzemann returned to the Oberliga West and joined Meidericher SV for the round in 1959/60. With the "zebras" he could not assert himself in the attack in the main lineup, which was mostly occupied by Werner Krämer , Ludwig Nolden , Heinz Bohnes , Kurt Nolden and Heinz Versteeg . Together with Hartmut Heidemann, he added the "first five". He played 16 games in Wedau and scored two goals. He returned to Neuendorf for the 1960/61 round.

TuS Neuendorf, 1960 to 1964

In the second Neuendorfer section, Hölzemann was deployed as a flexible all-rounder and from 1960 to 1963 he made a further 81 league appearances with 18 goals. For TuS Neuendorf he had played 162 games in his six rounds up to 1963 and scored 68 goals. He has a total of 197 league games with 70 goals.

Under coach Erich Garske , Hölzemann played his last game in the Southwest Regional Football League on April 19, 1964 in a 4-1 home win against SV Völklingen and ended his higher-class career after 28 games and six goals.
