Ludwig "Lulu" Nolden (born October 5, 1935 in Duisburg ) is a former German soccer player who played 91 games with 16 goals in the Bundesliga for Meidericher SV from 1963 to 1967 .

career

Oberliga West, 1954 to 1963

From the youth through the amateur team, Kurt Nolden's younger brother came to the "Zebras" league team in 1954/55. The young player, who played mostly outside runners or half-strikers, had his first appearance in the Oberliga West on February 6, 1955 in a 4-2 away win against VfL Bochum . He took the position of his brother Kurt on half left and tried to put center forward Karl Hetzel and left winger Kurt Küppers in scene. "Lulu" Nolden was used a second time on February 20th in the local derby against Duisburger SpV , so his appointments for MSV ended in his first league round. Certainly that had something to do with the relegation battle up to matchday 30. Meiderich lost 2-0 at SV Sodingen on May 1, 1955 and rose as the penultimate, level on points with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Westfalia Herne on the saving places 14th and 13th , with 26:34 points from the Oberliga West . In his second round, 1955/56 , he experienced an immediate rise again with second place behind champions VfL Bochum.

After the rise again, Ludwig Nolden (Nolden II) belonged to the regular line-up of Meidericher SV until the end of the Oberliga era in 1963. For the first time in the 1959/60 season , when the MSV landed in eighth place, it surpassed its older brother Kurt (Nolden I) with 26 to 23 appearances. With his calm and defensive qualities, Ludwig was more responsible for the security of the defense as a left runner, whereas Kurt, as a strong half-forward, set accents in the attacking game. With the fifth place in 1962 and the final placement in 1963 as third in the table, Meiderich was nominated by the DFB for the 1963/64 round for the new Bundesliga. "Lulu" Nolden played 191 games with 23 goals in the Oberliga West for MSV from 1954 to 1963.

Bundesliga, 1963 to 1967

With nine players from the Meiderich youth - Dieter Danzberg , Horst Gecks , Hartmut Heidemann , Werner Krämer , Werner Lotz , Manfred Müller , Ludwig Nolden, Günter Preuß , Heinz Versteeg  - and the new coach Rudi Gutendorf , who was with TSV in the last league round Marl-Hüls had ranked 16th (the previous coach Willi Multhaup was now in charge of Werder Bremen ), Meidericher SV started in the Bundesliga in 1963/64 . With a convincing 4: 1 success at Karlsruher SC , the team with the newcomers Heinz Höher , Manfred Manglitz and Helmut Rahn started into the new performance class on the premiere match day, August 24, 1963. Johann Cichy , Ludwig Nolden, Werner Krämer and Heinz Höher formed the “magic square” in the World Cup system at that time . On matchday 30, May 9, 1964, Meiderich won the runner-up ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt with a 3-0 home win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern . "Lulu" Nolden converted his fifth penalty in the 63rd minute into a 2-0 lead and had played 29 games with six goals. Together with Heinz van Haaren , Werner Krämer and Werner Lotz, the veteran formed the midfield of the Meidericher in the next two rounds, who had signed ex-Schalke Hermann Eppenhoff as coach for the 1965/66 round . Nolden played 51 games with eight goals. After successes over VfB Stuttgart , Schalke 04 , Karlsruher SC and 1. FC Kaiserslautern, MSV entered the DFB Cup final against FC Bayern Munich on June 4, 1966 in Frankfurt in the 1965/66 season . "Lulu" Nolden was active in the 2-0 home win against VfB Stuttgart and converted the decisive penalty for a 1-0 victory in the 24th minute against KSC in the quarter-finals. Bayern Munich won the final 4-2. Coach Eppenhoff had occupied the midfield with Michael Bella , Heinz van Haaren and Werner Krämer and had Carl-Heinz Rühl , Rüdiger Mielke and Horst Gecks in the attack in an early 4-3-3 system and renounced the midfield senior.

In his last year in the Bundesliga, 1966/67 , “Lulu” Nolden only made eleven appearances with two goals. On matchday 25, March 11, 1967, he played his last game in the Bundesliga in a 0-0 home draw against Eintracht Frankfurt . In the history books of the Bundesliga Nolden went down with his penalty statistics of 15 executed and converted penalties. He converted his first penalty on November 23, 1963 at the home game against Borussia Dortmund , and scored his 15th goal with his annoying “beer calm” on November 5, 1966, again against Borussia Dortmund.
