Johann Cichy (born June 2, 1932 ; † September 12, 2019 ) was a German football player who, from 1957 to 1965, played a total of 174 league games as an active member of Meidericher SV in the Oberliga West or Bundesliga , scoring six goals.

career

"Hennes" Cichy played for his home club SpVgg Hochheide until he was 25 years old . In the early years of senior football he was in action with Hochheide in the Lower Rhine regional league and achieved good placements so that the game association was nominated for the 1956/57 round after third place in 1955/56 for the newly introduced Niederrhein Association league . In the debut year of the association league, Cichy came with his teammates behind champions, promoted to the 2nd League West and German amateur champion VfL Benrath to the runner-up. But now he accepted the offer of the West Oberligisten Meidericher SV for the round in 1957/58 - the MSV allegedly paid 120 DM a month basic salary, plus a bonus of 100 DM - and in the future played in the "Zebras" jersey.

His first game in the league was played by Cichy, who was mostly set up as a right wing runner, on September 22, 1957 in a 2-0 away win at Westfalia Herne. He formed the final triangle of the Wedau-Elf together with goalkeeper Erwin Pajonk and defender colleague Kurt Küppers . Meiderich finished fourth, Heinz Bohnes scored 17 goals and the newcomer from Hochheide was used in twelve league games. For the last five rounds of the old first-class Oberliga West, 1958/59 to 1962/63, the hard-working midfielder, who was strong in duels, always belonged to the narrow circle of regular players at MSV. He scored his five goals in 152 competitive games in the major league in the 1960/61 season. Outstanding was his goal on March 12, 1961 for the 2-0 final at the home game against VfL Bochum , when he sank a tee shot by VfL keeper Heinz Streckbein from around 45 meters straight into the Bochum's case in the 76th minute . With the fifth place in 1961/62 and especially the 3rd place in 1962/63 - Cichy came to 24 league games - the Meidericher SV from the Oberliga West was included in the newly created football league for the 1963/64 round.

For the 31-year-old, the Bundesliga adventure began on the day the new performance class started, August 24, 1963, with the away game at the former southern division club Karlsruher SC . In front of 40,000 spectators in the Wildpark Stadium, the team of the new MSV coach Rudi Gutendorf prevailed 4: 1. Together with goalkeeper Manfred Manglitz , the defenders Werner Lotz - Johann Sabath , and in the runner row with Günter Preuss and Ludwig Nolden , "Hennes" Cichy formed the defensive of the team from the Lower Rhine. At the end of the round, Meiderich had completely surprisingly reached the runner-up behind the first champions in Bundesliga history, 1. FC Köln. The veteran had played 19 games and scored one goal. In the second year of the Bundesliga, 1964/65, there were only three more appointments for him and he ended his senior career at the age of 33 in the summer of 1965 and returned to his home club SpVgg Hochheide.
