Manfred Müller (born August 7, 1941 ) is a former German soccer player who, as an active member of MSV Duisburg, played 149 defensive games in the Bundesliga between 1963 and 1970 , scoring two goals.

Manfred “Mattes” Müller belonged to the group of players from the end of the first-class Oberliga era (1960–1963) / beginning of the Bundesliga (1963–1970) of the “Zebras” from the Meiderich district , with ball dexterity, technical wit, pronounced commitment and years of team spirit demonstrated the classic handwriting of the Meiderich youth work at that time for years. After his youth he gained his first experience in the senior sector in the Meiderich amateur team and was appointed to the WFV's selection teams by association trainer Dettmar Cramer . In the last year of the old league system , 1962/63, he came to twelve missions under the trainer Willi Multhaup from Essen and was able to help that Meiderich was nominated for the debut round in 1963/64 by achieving third place for the new Bundesliga . The player, who originally played a defender, made his first league debut in the 1960/61 season on matchday 22, February 25, 1961, in the local derby against Duisburger SV. When the MSV was able to occupy fifth place in 1961/62, however, no further appearances in the top division had followed for the young player.

While the Bundesliga nomination of the "Zebras" from Meiderich was a surprise, the runner-up in 1963/64 in the debut year of the new concentration of performance in German league football was a sensation. With the new coach Rudi Gutendorf - he had come from Marl-Hüls to Duisburg for Multhaup, who had switched to Werder Bremen -, the newcomers Heinz Höher , Manfred Manglitz and Helmut Rahn , were mainly the Meiderich home growns Ludwig Nolden , Günter Preuß , Werner Lotz , Hartmut Heidemann , Dieter Danzberg , Werner Krämer , Horst Gecks , Heinz Versteeg and “Mattes” Müller made this success possible. When the Hungarian Gyula Lóránt practiced his strict regiment with the MSV team in 1967/68, the Meideriches were after the autumn round with 20:14 points - tied with Mönchengladbach (2nd), 1860 Munich (3rd), Bayern Munich (5th). ) - in fourth place. At the end of the round, the club, renamed from Meidericher SV to MSV Duisburg, was in seventh place with 36:32 points. Manfred Müller only made 15 missions in this round. He played his last Bundesliga game on May 3, 1970 in the 2: 3 away defeat at Alemannia Aachen. The MSV defense formed that day with goalkeeper Dietmar Linders and defenders Hartmut Heidemann, Michael Bella, Detlef Pirsig and “Mattes” Müller. After 149 Bundesliga games with two goals, he moved to Belgium in the summer of 1970, where he played for KFC Diest and KFC Lokeren and ended his sporting career in 1975.

In later years he worked as an amateur trainer.
