Otto Heilmann

Otto Heilmann (born February 20, 1930 in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb. ) Is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in Denmark .

Life

Heilmann, son of a miner , attended secondary school and graduated from high school in 1951 . He then studied journalism until 1954 at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , graduating as a journalist.

Then he joined the diplomatic service of the GDR. From 1955 to 1967 he held various functions. Among other things, he was press attaché at the embassy in Bucharest (from 1957) and Prague (from 1960) as well as deputy section head in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From 1968 to 1971 he headed the press department at the MfAA. After attending the party college "Karl Marx" in 1971/1972 he became head of the representation of the Chamber for Foreign Trade in Copenhagen . On 15 January 1973 he was charge d'affaires ad interim , then the first Ambassador of the GDR in Copenhagen. From 1979 to 1982 he was head of the journalistic relations department at the MfAA.
