Otto Helbig

Otto Helbig (born October 28, 1914 - † October 13, 2013 ) was an American multi-instrumentalist (including violin , saxophone ), composer , arranger and music teacher.

Live and act

Helbig earned a bachelor's degree from Yale University and then completed a master's and doctoral degree at Columbia University . During the Second World War he did military service in the US Army; During this time he worked with numerous jazz musicians on the production of V-Discs for troop entertainment. I.a. he wrote the arrangement for More Than You Know , played by the Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, the combined band's only recording. He wrote the song Where You Are Tonight My Love in 1941 with Dave Henderson and Stanley Sonny Stockton. His composition The Pentagon was performed by the National Symphony in Washington, DC. In the field of jazz he was involved in 28 recording sessions between 1943 and 1950.

Helbig taught violin, composition and orchestral conducting at Trenton State College for 32 years . After his retirement he performed as a musician in the Princeton area. As a violinist, Helbig played with orchestras in Hawaii and Trenton. Most recently he lived in the Homewood Residences in Sun City Center , Florida.
