Otto Küstermann

Julius Albert Otto Küstermann (born February 18, 1837 in Schladebach , † February 20, 1913 in Merseburg ) was a German Protestant pastor and historian .

Life

Küstermann was a son of the local pastor of Schladebach Eduard Albert Küstermann and Johanna Henriette Agnes Graßhoff. He attended the Domgymnasium in Merseburg , studied at the University of Halle from 1856-1859, passed his first theological exam there in 1860 and, after having passed his second theological exam in 1862, after his ordination in Magdeburg on July 30, 1862, he became a pastor in Pödelist , 1867 pastor in Geusa and retired in 1902.

Act

Küstermann dealt intensively with the history of his home region. His "Old Geographic Forays through the Merseburg Monastery", which provide well-founded historical information, were only printed once. His "Descriptive Presentation of the Older Architectural and Art Monuments of the Province of Saxony - Eighth Booklet - The District of Merseburg" (1883) is still a standard work in academic libraries today. In 2009, a memorial column was erected on his grave in his honor at the Altenburg cemetery by the Merseburg Old Town Association.

In 1902 he was awarded the " Red Eagle Order 4th Class" by the Prussian King Wilhelm II .

family

Küstermann was married twice. His first marriage was on April 21, 1864 in Schladebach with Auguste Karoline Ida (* May 10, 1846, † September 14, 1869), the daughter of the brewery owner Franz Lange in Schladebach. His second marriage was on July 21, 1871 with Pauline Juliane Meta (* March 27, 1849, † June 24, 1931), the daughter of the pastor at St. Maximikirche in Merseburg, Johann Philipp Hermann Heinecken. There are 9 children from the two marriages:
