Otto Kehr
Otto Kehr (born July 27, 1914 in Döffingen ; † October 26, 2009 in Stuttgart-Riedenberg ) was a German pastor . He was the overall director of the Evangelical Society in Stuttgart and the founder of the Evangelical Telephone Pastoral Care in Stuttgart.
Life
Otto Kehr attended the Protestant seminaries in Schöntal and Urach (grammar schools) from 1930 to 1934 . During his theology studies in Tübingen he was repeatedly drafted into the military and wounded several times. In 1946 he became parish priest in Hohenhaslach near Vaihingen / Enz , and in 1952 in Plochingen . From 1959 he was the general director of the Evangelical Society Stuttgart ( eva ), where he was confronted with the aftermath of the war: In Stuttgart since the end of the war, homeless people lived in former bunkers who were looked after by the Evangelical Society.
In 1960 Otto Kehr founded the Evangelical Telephone Pastoral Care in Stuttgart, of which he was honorary chairman from 1960 to 1980. At the time, this was the third telephone pastoral care in Germany. From 1962 to 1976 he was President of the International Association for Telephone Counseling.
From 1970 to 1981 Kehr belonged to the Diaconal Council and the Diaconal Conference of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) . He was involved, among other things, in the state committee of the Diakonisches Werk Württemberg , in the League of Free Welfare Care Stuttgart and the Evangelical Central Office for Worldview Issues of the EKD.
Kehr was considered a proven social expert and advocate for disadvantaged people. Dormitories, also for young people, and the now independent disability center (bhz) were built under Kehr's direction. He was also the editor of the Evangelical Community Gazette for Württemberg , chairman of the Evangelical Community Press and member of the Evangelical Press Association of Württemberg.
In retirement he lived withdrawn and health impaired in Stuttgart-Riedenberg . He found his final resting place in the Tübingen mountain cemetery .
