Otto Lichtschlag

Otto Lichtschlag (born July 17, 1885 in Wesel , Rhine Province , † March 17, 1961 in Andernach ) was a German officer , most recently Colonel i. G. in the Second World War as well as free corps leader in the Ruhr area .

Life

Lichtschlag was an older brother of SS leader Walter Lichtschlag . As the son of an officer, he began his military career in the 1st Westphalian Field Artillery Regiment No. 7 . Lichtschlag served as a general staff officer in World War I and was a captain at the end of the war .

Since December 14, 1918 he led the Freikorps Lichtschlag , which fought with the Red Ruhr Army in the Ruhr area . After the commanding general of the VII Army Corps , Oskar von Watter , had previously obtained Gustav Noske's consent , on February 11, 1919, he had the General Soldiers' Council for the Freikorps dissolved and its members arrested. On February 16, a pacification campaign was ordered against Hervest . The blood trail that began here earned the formation the name "Freikorps Totschlag". After the unit was disbanded, Lichtschlag worked in industry.

During the Second World War Lichtschlag was reactivated and served as Colonel i. G. u. a. from 1942 to January 1943 first general staff officer (Ia) in the LXXXII. Army Corps and Chief of Staff of the XXXIV. Army Corps .
