Otto Magnus von Grünewaldt (born June 26, 1801 in Koik ; † October 6, 1890 in Reval ) was a Baltic German politician, farmer and Estonian district administrator .

Life

After receiving home tuition , Otto Magnus von Grünewaldt attended the 2nd grammar school in Saint Petersburg and the cathedral school in Reval . From 1819 to 1822 he studied camera science at the University of Dorpat . He then went to study zoology at the Universities of Göttingen and Bonn as well as Italy. He became a member of the Corps Curonia Bonn and the Curonia Goettingensis VII. In 1825 he returned to the Koik family estate, whose owner he became in 1826. He managed the estate on which he set up a stud until 1862. He also became the owner of the Brandten estates in Estonia, Laimetz and Waimastfer in Livonia. As a progressive farmer, he traveled to East Prussia and Pomerania to study in 1833, 1835 and 1840. Von Grünewaldt was one of the leading figures in the second agricultural reform in Estonia. In 1839 he became a permanent member of the farmers' commission. Between 1842 and 1846 he introduced the servant economy. In 1839 he was co-founder and until 1846 President of the Estonian Agricultural Association, of which he was made an honorary member. From 1834 to 1863 von Grünewaldt was a member and then an honorary member of the Livonian Charitable and Economic Society. In 1835 he belonged to the consortium for the establishment of a primary school teacher seminar. From 1839 to 1851 he was district deputy and from 1857 to 1858 Estonian district administrator. He worked as a curator of the Knight and Cathedral School in Reval and the Finn Monastery. As the travel marshal of Grand Duchess Helena , he toured Germany in 1843 and Austria and Italy in 1845. He was appointed chamberlain. After 1869 he lived in Reval.

Otto Magnus came from the German-Baltic noble family von Grünewaldt . His father was the Russian major and Estonian district administrator Johann Georg von Grünewaldt (1763-1817), who was married to Anna Christina von Kursell (1760-1842). His brother was Johann von Grünewaldt (1796–1862). Otto Magnus married Mathilde von Wolff (1802–1860) in 1825 in their first marriage , their descendants were:
