Otto Mayer (photographer)

Otto Mayer (born November 24, 1850 in Budapest ; † January 29, 1929 in Dresden -Loschwitz) was a German court photographer in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Life

Otto Mayer was, as evidenced by the lapel of a carte de visite, court photographer of the King of Saxony and “ Kaiserl. u. Royal Court photographer ”. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order , the Knight's Cross of the Order of Henry the Lion and the Order of the Iron Crown (Austria) III. Classe awarded.

Well-known studios

  • Around 1885 Mayer took over Hugo Thiele's atelier in Dresden at Prager Strasse 31. For a while, his studio was also located at Prager Strasse 38. From there he sent mail with his own seal stamps .

While the older picture is still labeled “Atelier Thiele Otto Mayer Dresden”, the younger one is labeled “Otto Mayer vorm. H. Thiele ”as well as the reference to Mayer's quality as a court photographer.
