Otto Nauer

Otto Nauer (born October 23, 1914 in Zurich ; † July 11, 2012 in Wetzikon , entitled to live in Dottikon ) was a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Family and work

Born in Zurich, Otto Nauer, son of metalworker Albert Nauer, and Sophie, born Hofer, graduated from a commercial apprenticeship in a women's clothing factory, was employed as an accountant and head of personnel in a textile company in Mendrisio from 1939 to 1946 . Returning to Zurich in 1946, Nauer took over the presidency of the troubled workers' settlement cooperative (Asig), which was in trouble during the war years, and managed it successfully for four decades. He was later awarded the honorary presidency for his work . In addition, from 1964 to 1979, Nauer acted as managing director of the Allgemeine Baugenossenschaft Zürich (ABZ) . Nauer later held the office of President of the Swiss Association for Housing.

Otto Nauer married Anna in 1939, the daughter of the post office clerk Christian Caprez. In 1998 he published a report on his wife 's Alzheimer's disease . Otto Nauer died in Wetzikon in 2012 a few months before he turned 98.

Political career

Otto Nauer, who joined the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland (SP), was a local councilor in Zurich from 1958 to 1964 . In 1964 he was elected to the Zurich Cantonal Council , where he was represented until 1973. From 1971 to 1987 he was a member of the National Council ; he was particularly committed to the housing cooperatives .
