Otto Rosenthal (born March 12, 1881 in Nuremberg ; † February 29, 1924 there ) was a German chemist and entrepreneur .

Life

His parents were Jakob Rosenthal and Karoline (Lina), nee Schloß. His father ran a haberdashery, white and wool store on Gostenhofer Hauptstrasse.

Rosenthal graduated from the Realgymnasium in Nuremberg in the summer of 1900 and began his studies at the electrochemical department of the Technical University of Darmstadt . After the second semester, he did his military service as a one-year volunteer in the Bavarian Army . In October 1902 he continued his chemical studies at the TH Munich and after the main examination in 1904 became a qualified engineer. He continued his studies in October at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and was awarded a doctorate in 1906 with his thesis "On compounds of tetravalent tin with pentavalent vanadium , phosphorus and arsenic ". phil. PhD .

He founded the "Chemische Fabrik Nürnberg-Wetzendorf ", which existed until 1939.

During the First World War he was initially a non-commissioned officer in the 8th field artillery regiment “Prince Heinrich of Prussia” , then was promoted to lieutenant and at the end of the war to first lieutenant and was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross .

On July 27, 1921, he married the art history student Maria Julia Metzger (born March 12, 1897 in Nuremberg –1987). Her father Otto Metzger was the owner of the “Metzger & Böhm” brandy distillery in Mögeldorf . Their son Hans Heinrich was born on June 11, 1922.

Otto Rosenthal succumbed to the consequences of a war illness. At the funeral on February 29, 1924, Rabbi Isaak Heilbronn (1880–1943) gave the funeral oration.
