After Schilt obtained his doctorate in both rights in Leipzig in 1913 , he returned to Frauenfeld and passed the Thurgau bar exam.

In 1920 Schilt moved to Zurich and in 1926 married the pianist Hedy Kraft.
Schilt's works include portrait busts as well as fountain sculptures and sculptures that can be seen in public spaces in Frauenfeld and in the city of Zurich.
