Otto Schmidt (jockey)
Otto Schmidt (born February 6, 1896 in Gehren , † April 12, 1964 in Dortmund ) was a German jockey in horse racing .
Otto Schmidt was born as the youngest of four children on February 6, 1896 in Gehren near Luckau. His teaching, he graduated from 1912 to 1917 under Fred Taral the team of the brothers Arthur and Carl von Weinberg , the owners of at Frankfurt located stud Waldfried. During his active time as a jockey, during which he mostly worked for the Waldfried, Ebbesloh and Erlenhof studs, he won the German Derby seven times and achieved a total of 2,218 victories. Otto Schmidt was fourteen times champion of the jockeys. In 1952 he ended his career as a jockey and was a trainer for the Mydlinghoven stud and the Ebbesloh studactive. He died on April 12, 1964 in Dortmund, where he was also buried. To this day he is considered one of the most successful German jockeys.
