After attending school in his hometown in 1867, the son of the Lommatzsch carpenter Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Sohre started an apprenticeship as a carpenter in Reudnitz and then studied at the Royal Building School Leipzig (a predecessor of today's University of Technology, Economics and Culture Leipzig ).

At the age of 29 he settled in Berlin as a self-employed master builder. In the address book he traded as Architect, Maurer- u. Zimmermstr, Exec. v. Buildings j. Art, general company .

For many years Otto Sohre was chairman and honorary chairman of the German war club "King Albert of Saxony" in Berlin. In this position he took part in the state funerals of the Saxon kings Albert (1902) and Georg (1904). He was also a first class knight of the Order of Albrecht .

On May 5, 1884, Sohre was accepted into the Masonic lodge to the three golden keys , which is also evidenced by his hereditary burial adorned with compasses, square and two sphinxes on the east wall of the old Luisenstadt cemetery .
