Otto Wobbe

Otto Wobbe (* 10. April 1868 in Greifswald ; † 9. May 1945 ibid ) was a German local historian and writer .

Life

Otto Wobbe was born in the then Hotel Preußischer Hof at Baderstraße 3, the second of seven children of the hotelier and wine merchant Carsten Wobbe. In 1892 he was one of the five founding members of the Hilda Cooperative Rowing Club . From 1912 he ran a wine shop and restaurant in Fischstrasse 11. In 1923 he had to give up his business, sold the house and went to Reinfeld near Lübeck to devote himself to writing. When he lost his remaining fortune due to inflation , he returned to Greifswald.

He worked in his hometown Greifswald in the museum association, as a local editor and as managing director of the German National People's Party (DNVP). Between 1919 and 1921 he published his autobiography From a Modest Life in three volumes. From 1924 he was responsible for the weekly supplement Heimatleiw un Muddersprak of the Greifswalder Zeitung . In 1928 he received an honorary gift from the Prussian Ministry of Culture for his work . From 1938 he received an honorary salary of 1200 Reichsmarks annually from the city of Greifswald for life.

After the surrender of the Wehrmacht , he committed suicide on May 9, 1945 in his apartment at Wiesenstrasse 67.

His written estate is in the Greifswald City Archives .
