Otto von Frisch

Otto von Frisch (born December 13, 1929 in Munich ; † June 4, 2008 ) was a German zoologist .

Life

Otto von Frisch, son of the zoologist and behavioral scientist Karl von Frisch , studied zoology because of his interest in animals . He wrote a doctoral thesis on snipe birds and plover and inspected, among other things, the fauna in the Bavarian moors and in the Camargue in southern France .

In 1957 Von Frisch played the role of the goat teacher in the fairy tale film The Wolf and the Seven Goats . It was a one-off film role he took on because of his passion for animals.

In 1959 Otto von Frisch became scientific clerk for vertebrates at the Natural History Museum in Braunschweig , in 1970 he was appointed custodian, and from 1978 until his retirement in 1995 he was director of the museum. In 1965 he received his habilitation at the TU Braunschweig , which appointed him professor in 1970.

Von Frisch published numerous books, of which his work Thousand Tricks of the Camouflage was awarded the German Youth Book Prize in 1974 . From 1971 to 1973 he moderated the ZDF documentary series Paradiese der Tiere .
