The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats , alternative title The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats , is a German fairy tale film by Peter Podehl from 1957. It is based on the Grimm fairy tale The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats . All animal roles are played by people in disguise.

action

A raven with a hat tells the story of the wolf and the seven little goats :

Once upon a time there was a mother goat who lived in the mountains with her seven little goats. In autumn, when the leaves were turning, the family came down to the valley and looked for a house here for the winter. While searching in the forest, the youngest kid Gucki accidentally finds the former hut of a forest man and the family settles down at home. A short time later, the six little kids go to school. Gucki is also allowed to come and watch. If the kids have learned in the last lesson where the best grass grows, when it should be eaten and why wet grass is harmful, they are now learning something about their worst enemy, the wolf. He has pointed teeth, a long tongue, green, flashing eyes and especially likes to eat young goats. The teacher also points out the deep voice of the wolf.

Back home, the mother goes shopping. She instructs the little kids not to let anyone in, and the kids lock the door. At Gucki's instructions, they clean up, but are startled by the knock on the door in the middle of what they are doing. The wolf stands in front of the door and demands admission. The kids recognize him by his voice and refuse to open the door. When the wolf tries to get in through the window, they throw logs at him until he gives up. He goes to a trader and eats a whole pack of chalk , but even with a high voice he cannot force entry, as the black paw that he shows the little kids through the window gives him away. He almost manages to get through the chimney into the house of the little goats, but the little goats light a fire and thus drive him to flight.

At a baker's, the wolf has his paws powdered white and, since he passes all tests, is let in by the little goats. The seven hide in panic. Nevertheless, the wolf manages to eat six little goats. The seventh, Gucki, is hiding in the watch case and is therefore the only one who answers the mother's calls when she returns. Both find the sleeping wolf at the well. Without further ado, the mother cuts open the wolf's belly, saves her children and fills the wolf's belly with rocking stones. When the wolf wakes up thirsty and wants to drink from the well, it falls into the depths and dies.

The little goats are delighted, but the mother goat combines her reproach for the careless behavior of her children with a general warning: Children should never go with strangers or trust their flattery, curls or promises, as this will always end badly. At the end the little goats dance around the fountain and sing The wolf is dead! .

production

The film was produced by the Schongerfilm Hubert Schonger from Inning am Ammersee . The wolf says appropriately in the film that he is so thirsty that he can " drink up the whole Ammersee ".

The wolf and the seven little goats had its premiere on August 27, 1957 in the Federal Republic of Germany. The film was released on DVD on April 3, 2009.

criticism

The film-dienst wrote in 1957 that the film was "hopelessly antiquated", but emphasized the child-friendly nature of the film:

“Particularly noteworthy: the original school scene; the renouncement of terrible close-ups; the fairytale mood effect through backlit shots in the long shot; the indirect reproduction of the eating scene; the educational conclusion that the wolf, in the form of beautiful 'uncles', is still chasing after the children today. "

- film service

The lexicon of international films published by film-dienst in 1990, updated, found that the film "doll-like disguised actors in a living forest landscape give a funny and imaginative note."
