Otto von Raven

Otto von Raven (born April 24, 1778 in Wrechen ; † May 19, 1810 ibid) was a Prussian officer and knight of the order Pour le Mérite .

Life

Otto Gottlob von Raven was born on April 24, 1778 in Wrechen. His father was Otto Friedrich von Raven (1743–1794), landlord of Wrechen and Warbende , his mother was Henriette von Wedel (1751–1794), daughter of the Uckermark district administrator Friedrich Wilhelm von Wedel. He was married to Luise-Wilhelmine Freiin von der Recke (1780-1822) and had a daughter with her. Military career

As the third son of his father, Otto von Raven became an officer. He joined the Garde du Corps and quickly advanced to the rank of staff officer. With his regiment he took part in the war of Prussia against France and fought in 1807 after the heavy defeat of Prussia against Napoleon in early 1807 in West Prussia against the French troops. In a battle near Marienwerder , he and his soldiers attacked a French detachment and defeated them. In a report from his commander von Borstell to the king of February 14, 1807, it says: "At the same time, the same (Raven) now proposes, according to a list of names, 3 non-commissioned officers and 35 Gardes du Corps [...] for the silver medal of merit. In the same asks he for the Rittmeister von Alvensleben because of the attack near Marienwerder for the VO [...]. " In a very high cabinet order, the king replied on February 19, 1807: "I have given the Rittmeister von Alvensleben the VO under the 4th for his operations against the enemy with distinction; but I am enclosing the same here for the Staff Cavalier von Raven"

Otto von Raven was promoted to major , but then dismissed because of the army reduction enforced in the Peace of Tilsit . He then managed the Güer Wrechen und Warbende he inherited from his father until his death.
