history
As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Banat was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary . The village was founded in 1868 by Hungarian small farmers. The newly founded village was named Eötvösfalva , later Eötvös or Ötvösd , in honor of the baron and minister Joszef Eötvös.
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the Banat being divided into three parts , whereby Ötvösd fell to the Kingdom of Romania . In the interwar period, the place name was Romanized, first in Iveşti and later in Otveşti . However, the majority population continued to be Hungarian.
