Otwin Evert Theodoor van Dijk (born April 22, 1975 in Rhenen ) is a Dutch politician and former member of the Second Chamber for the Partij van de Arbeid (PvdA). Since July 2016 he has been the mayor of the municipality of Oude IJsselstreek .

Life

Van Dijk studied law at the Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen . He then became an employee of the Nijmegen municipality . Van Dijk is in a wheelchair because of an accident he had when he was 18. Since 2009 he has been the chairman of a nationwide working group dedicated to the subject of the accessibility of products and services.

He is married.

In 1998 Van Dijk joined the Duiven municipal council for the PvdA . From 2005 to 2012 he was an alderman ( Dutch wethouder ) of the municipality of Doetinchem . In September 2012 he was elected to the second chamber of the national parliament.

On May 19, 2016, the local council of Oude IJsselstreek asked Van Dijk to be the new mayor. On July 8th, he was appointed to his post by the king's commissioner .
