Out of Time is a 2001 American thriller starring Dean Cain .

The professional burglar Max Hooper and his partner Vincent want to steal a new type of microchip from the office building of the computer company IQ Technologies in Los Angeles , which is kept in a vault on the 21st floor. The coup is said to bring him and Vincent a total of $ 4.5 million from an unknown client.
Max disguises himself as a patrol officer and can break into the building. Just before he reached his destination, a fire breaks out on the sixth floor. Max wants to flee first. But when he notices that other people are still locked in the building, he offers himself as a helper in order to be able to steal the computer chip after all.
Paul Brody, the security chief at IQ Technologies, reveals that Max is not a real cop, but a thief. It soon becomes clear, however, that Brody started the fire in order to be able to steal the chip unnoticed and sell it to interested Asian customers.
Brody shoots three of the trapped before he is thrown from the roof of the building by Max in a life and death fight, killing him. The few survivors of the incident are rescued from the roof of the burning building in a helicopter from the fire brigade. Jack Calloway, the owner of IQ Technologies, can get the coveted chip back into his possession. Max Hooper, disguised as a firefighter, escapes the waiting security guards.

"A disaster film dramatized with tried and tested means, loosened up with a few jokes, which suffers from the incomprehensible behavior of its people and ultimately fails because of the overabundance of pyrotechnic effects and its unimaginative design."
