Ovanåker is a place ( Småort ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborgs län and the historic province (landskap) Hälsingland . It belongs to the municipality of the same name , but is not its main town, and is six kilometers east of Edsbyn .
The name Ovanåker is derived from the name of the church village, which is first recorded as Offuanååker in 1542 . Ovanåker Church dates from 1621.
Before 2015, Ovanåker had the status of a crime scene with 212 inhabitants most recently (2010), but then lost it due to the excessive distance to part of the residential development according to the crime scene definition.
