Overtorture is a Swedish death metal band from Stockholm that was formed in 2011.

history

The band was formed in the second half of 2011 and consisted of guitarist Magnus Martinsson, drummer Fredrik Widigs, singer Joel Fornbrant and bassist Jonas Torndal. The members were previously active in bands such as Grave , Coldworker , Demonical , The Ugly and Witchery . After the band wrote their first songs, they recorded eight demo songs in October. Of this, however, only the song Slaves to the Atom was published. In the months that followed, the group went looking for a label deal and continued to work on the songs and wrote more new ones. In March the band ended their search for a second guitarist, because Andreas Hemmander, who had previously played in a band with Martinsson, joined the line-up. A short time later she got a contract with Apostasy Records . In May and June 2012 the band recorded their debut album At the End the Dead Await in several studios. The material was mixed and mastered by Ola Englund of Six Feet Under and The Haunted . After Joakim Antman, who had previously played with Widigs at The Ugly, joined the band as the new bass player in autumn 2012, the album was released in early 2013. The band made their first appearance on March 22, 2013 in Stockholm with Hypocrisy . The first tour of Germany followed in September , where she also performed with Nile . In 2015 the second album A Trail of Death was released , mixed and mastered by Sverker Wildgren from Demonical. The band had recorded the songs in Martinsson's recording studio, only the drums were recorded in Wildgren's Wing Studios.

style

Rock Hard's Patrick Schmidt described the music on A Trail of Death as Grave and Demonical-style death metal. Gretha Breuer had reviewed the album one issue earlier. Martinsson's guitar sounds like both Swedish and American death metal. The song is classic growled . In the songs, the melodies would mostly be kept in the background. Andreas Schiffmann also reviewed the album in the same issue. The lyrics are interchangeable and there are " riffs and phrases heard a thousand times ", which only results in average Death Metal. Thomas Sonder from Metal Hammer also noted in his review of At the End the Dead Await that the band was only imitating what was already known. He called the music Swedish Death Metal with Thrash Metal borrowings. Occasionally, however, the group also process their own ideas in the songs. The use of double bass is also characteristic of the songs.
