Owen Saunders-Davies
Arthur Owen Saunders-Davies (born June 2, 1901 in Newcastle Emlyn , † October 12, 1959 in Romsey ) was a British racing driver .
Career in motorsport
Owen Saunders-Davies was a member of the Saunders-Davies family who ran a large estate in the Welsh county of Pembrokeshire for many generations . He was a racing driver in the 1930s and had most of the successes on the Brooklands racetrack . In 1932 he finished second in the Brooklands 1000 Mile Race . Saunders-Davies , who drove alone on a Talbot AV105, was beaten by a pair of women. Elsie Wisdom and Joan Richmond achieved a highly regarded overall victory on a Riley 9 .
He competed three times in the Le Mans 24-hour race . While he retired prematurely in 1934 as a partner of Freddie de Clifford after a valve damage on the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 , he finished the race in 1931 together with Tim Rose-Richards in third overall.
Owen Saunders-Davies died in a car accident in Romsey in October 1959 .
