action

Antoine Chevalier, who is almost 50 years old, lives a life in Lyon that is boring from his own point of view: He has long been married to Véro, a doctor who is on call on a regular basis. He finds no fulfillment in his job and also has to work with his father as a superior. Antoine is very careful to live healthy, he eats healthily, does not smoke and does regular exercise. He likes to flirt with young, attractive women and occasionally meet them on dates.

Things change when Antoine suffers a heart attack at a running event. He decides to change the life he has lived with caution, quits his job and, contrary to medical advice, begins to eat hearty food, alcohol and tobacco.

Together with the befriended couples Baptiste and Olivia, Yves and Laure, Laurent and Nathalie and the single Jean-Mich, Antoine and Véro spend their summer vacation in a rented house in Vigan . The clique experienced two weeks together with good food, plenty of wine and drugs. Baptiste and Olivia, who are separated, try to deal with their situation and jealousy. Laurent hides his professional and financial problems from his wife Nathalie and his friends. Antoine feels annoyed by Yves and his stories, which he also expresses, Jean-Mich also experiences Antoine's direct criticism on his own body. Antoine also learns that his wife Véro has a relationship with a doctor colleague. The already tense situation within the clique culminates in a verbal outburst of Antoine's circulatory collapse.

After returning to Lyon, all ties to Antoine's friends seem to have broken, and his marriage to Véro is pending. It doesn't take long until he gets back in touch with his friends and he is benevolently accepted back into the clique. Antoine decides to be more indulgent not only to his friends but also to his wife and is reconciled with Véro.

criticism

Overall, the reviews of the film are below average. Cinema.de praises the French touch of the film with the words “Typically French, staged with a light hand and a lot of oh la la.” Wolfgang Hamdorf from Filmdienst.de, on the other hand, specifies as follows: “Shot in wonderful landscapes, with an ensemble of actors that in many moments is very funny, but the film still doesn't get going. What could have become an exciting, humorous drama about a life crisis around 50, about the monotony of the upper middle class in the French provinces, fails due to penetrating complacency and pleasing puns, without ever reaching any kind of psychological tension. ”Particularly critical tones regarding the lack of depth of the film also come from Martin Beck on Kino-zeit.de: "The search for the meaning of life light, always nice within the framework of mainstream sprinkling with a manageable distance to the Sunday ZDF Herzkino."
