geography
The municipality is one of the smallest municipalities in Sweden with 33 km². It lies with its archipelago and beaches in the Baltic Sea and only borders on land to the municipality of Nyköping .
history
A port has been in Oxelösund for at least 500 years. When the mining of the ore industry in Bergslagen increased in the 19th century , Oxelösund became a transport port to ship the steel / iron products. The community was connected to the Swedish railway network in 1873 . When the new steelworks were built in the early 1920s , the old town center of Oxelösund was torn down to make room, and a completely new city center was created.
economy
About 2,500 people are employed by the steel processing group SSAB Oxelösund , which exports 90 percent of its goods to Germany.
