Coordinates: 59 ° 22 ′ N , 16 ° 31 ′ E Eskilstuna is a municipality ( Swedish commun ) in the Swedish province of Södermanland County and the historical province of Södermanland . The main town of the municipality is Eskilstuna . The previous small town of Torshälla hasa limited self-governmentas a district ( Kommundel ) and titular town .
geography
The municipality of Eskilstuna is located in the Mälar valley between the lakes Mälaren and Hjälmaren , its borders roughly reflect the historical Rekarne landscape . In the north it borders on the province of Västmanland County .
history
The large community Eskilstuna was founded with the great Swedish community reform in 1971, from the previous communities Hällby, Kafjärden, Västra Rekarne, Husby-Rekarne, Ärla and the towns of Eskilstuna and Torshälla, with Eskilstuna as the official seat of the large community. A split in the community with Eskilstuna or Torshälla as the main towns was rejected in the 2006 referendum.
