Tumbo is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Södermanland County , in the historical province (landskap) Södermanland .

Location and traffic

Tumbo belongs to the Eskilstuna municipality and within this since January 1, 2016 to the Tumbo district . It is located about 12 km northwest as the crow flies northwest of the center of Eskilstuna , which is both provincial capital and community center. The place in the western part of the historical Rekarne landscape consists of three larger, somewhat separated parts (Berga in the east, Hagby in the south, Övlingeby in the north).

The Svealandsbahn (Svealandsbanan) runs through the village from Södertälje to Valskog . At the Rekarne train station there , which is now only used as a sideline without passenger traffic, a line to Kolbäck branches off the Stockholm – Örebro line , as part of the Oxelösund  - Sala connection . Europastraße 20 ( Europaväg 20 ) runs a few kilometers south of Tumbo ; To the east it is bypassed by Riksväg 56 , which, like the railway line to Kolbäck, crosses the Mälarsee at a narrow point about three kilometers north in Kvicksund .

History and sights

The place goes back to the old parish (Tumbo socken ) , from which a rural community of the same name (landskommun) emerged in 1862 . This went up in 1952 in the rural municipality of Hällby , and with this in 1971 in today's municipality (commun) Eskilstuna. At first there was no place right next to the church. The surrounding small settlements only consolidated after the opening of the nearby Rekarne train station of the former railway company Oxelösund- Flen - Västmanlands järnväg in 1876. From 1950 to 1970 the scene of the crime was designated under the name Rekarne .

The Tumbo Church (Tumbo kyrka) is one of the oldest churches in Sweden that has largely been preserved in its original design. The Romanesque building dates from the 12th century; The sacristy and armory were added in the 15th century. The current spire instead of a taller one, which collapsed in 1734, dates from 1742 to 1744. An organ by Gustaf Andersson has been in the church since 1846 , the prospect of which has been preserved. Around the church are the rune stones at the Tumbo kyrka , one is walled into the church wall.
